About ten years ago I read a book called: "Good Citizen Furniture-The Arts and Crafts Collection at Cheltenham" by Annette Carruthers and Mary Greenstead.[pub.Cheltenham Art Gallery and Lund Humphries]
It was about the leading furniture makers and craftsmen in the Arts and Crafts Movement.
Very well written and researched and it had some great photographs in it.
It was very inspiring!
At this point I decided I had to go to the Cotswolds.
I visited an old friend who lives outside Cirencester.
He is very knowledgeable and he took me on a pilgrimage to the important sites.
We started at Cheltenham Art Gallery.
The Collection was even better than I had imagined.
We finished at Lechlade and Kelmscott Manor where William Morris lived and worked.
He is buried in the local churchyard.
On the way home we made a surprise stop to see the Great Coxwell Barn.
It's a tithe barn that was built in the 13th century-and one of the finest buildings I have ever seen.
Last summer I went back and took some pictures.
